How my journey began
Hi, I’m Rhyanan, and I’m the founder of Ground Grow Nurture. I have always been passionate about working with neurodiverse children, ever since I was 16 years old and had a school placement at a child-care centre. There, I met a 5-year-old boy with autism who had not connected with any of the other carers in the centre (or in any of the previous centres he had been to). He instantly ‘adopted’ me as his favourite person, and we formed a special bond that changed my life. He taught me so much about his unique way of seeing the world, and how to communicate with him in a way that respected his needs and preferences. He also inspired me to learn more about autism and other forms of neurodiversity, and to pursue a career in this field.
I started working as a one-on-one carer for him, and then for other children and adults with additional needs. I loved being able to support them in their daily lives, and to help them achieve their goals and dreams. I also learned a lot from them, and from the training and education I received along the way. I am neurodiverse myself, and this has given me a unique perspective and empathy for the people I worked with.
When I became a mum, I was blessed with three beautiful neurodiverse kiddos, who have brought so much joy and challenge to my life. They have also motivated me to create this organisation, where I want to share my experiences and knowledge with other parents, carers, educators, and anyone who wants to learn more about neurodiversity. My mission is to provide a safe space for kids to be themselves, and to provide accessible and inclusive education to local businesses and communities. I believe that by raising awareness and understanding of neurodiversity, we can create a better and more accepting future for all, where everyone is welcome and valued.
